Packing Tips: Recommendations and advice

Packing tips are free. So, here you go:

Before packing, we recommend hosting a yard or garage sale to clear out unused or unwanted items. This is one of the most effective ways to downsize before a move. Technology makes it even easier—many people sell their belongings on platforms like Craigslist.org, OLX.com, or apps like OfferUp and LetGo.

After your sale, consider donating any remaining items. The fewer things you need to move, the simpler and more cost-effective your move will be!

Packing tips moving from professional packers

Packing isn’t as easy as you may think; it takes patience and time.

Our packing services specialists wanted to add their 2 cents:

Tip #1

Use the right-size boxes when packing.

Large boxes packed with heavy items are a common complaint of professional movers. They not only make the job harder but also have a better chance of breaking.

Put heavy items, like books, in small boxes; light items, like linens and pillows, in bigger ones.

Tip #3

Put lighter items on top, heavier items on the bottoms of boxes.
Moving tip: When we load the truck, we pack heavier boxes first, toward the front of the truck, for balance.

Tip #4

Do not pack items from different rooms in the same box.

Besides making the packing process easier, your unpacking will be much quicker.

Tip #6

Tape boxes well.

This is really important, and most people fail at this!

If possible, use labeled or colored duct tape. Assign a different color tape to each room in your household; this will make identifying your boxes a lot easier.

FYI: When unloading the truck, we take each box to its respective room (as long as they are clearly labeled)

When packing your boxes, remember to put extra tape under and around the ones that will carry heavier items, like books, dishes, pots, and pans.

A packing tip for moving fragile items is to put cushioning in the boxes where you will place them—bubble wrap, packing paper, or old newspapers—anything that can guarantee the safety of your things during shipping.

But please remember to label your boxes as fragile if needed!

  1. It’s valuable that you point out that hiring a moving company helps make sure that your belongings are taken care of while being transported to your new home. I need to move all of my stuff to a new house in a few weeks, so I’m considering hiring this moving company to help me.

  2. Great tip about using bubble wrap for your boxes. I need to get a moving crew for our attic boxes. We don’t have enough room in our new house.
